Fiddling Fool

Back in the summer of 2009 I read a book by a woman named Jenna Woginrich. I then read her blog, Cold Antler Farm. That summer she hosted a fiddle contest on her blog. She encouraged readers to take up the violin and post photos of their progress online. The reader who made the most progress was the winner of different farm goodies. I was not that person. I made very little progress indeed.

But, yesterday, I picked up the violin for the first time in almost 3 years. Today I picked it up again. I played Amazing Grace, slowly and out of tune, 4 times today. It was such a pleasure. I credit my Lenten discipline of no TV or movies for helping me find the time to resume my hobby. I don’t know how far I’ll go with it this time around but I know that I plan to pick it up again tomorrow.
